The Cottage
Self catering holidays on the island of Jersey
Mont es Croix cottage is located at about 300 yards up the hill from St Brelades Church. The original cottage was a single story dwelling with a thached roof, built in the mid 17th century. There is an early marriage stone above the door, beach stones were used for the window lintels and sides, and a large gable stone marks the original height of the cottage.
Outside
In front of the cottage there is a small lawn and graveled area separated by an old stone lined well. This is a beautiful sheltered area to catch the morning sun.
To the rear of the cottage, there is ample parking. The garden looks out on to agricultural fields and woodland where red squirrels, pheasants and poultry roam the area. There is a table and seating in this area so you can catch the evening sun while enjoying a meal.
Downstairs
The kitchen is out-fitted with fridge/freezer, dishwasher, 5 ring cooker, microwave and a washer/dryer.
In the diningroom there is an extendable table and 6 chairs. The drawing room has a large open fireplace with a chiminaria that can be lit. The small alcove in the fireplace is a typical 17th century salt store.
There is a downstairs cloak room with a W.C. and wash hand basin. The ground floor has underfloor heating (if needed) Wi-Fi internet telephone (for local calls) and satillite T.V.
Upstairs
The master bedroom has an en-suite shower room and a double bed.
There are two twin rooms with an additional cot and folding camp bed if needed, as well as, a shared bathroom. There is an iron and an ironing board in the cupboard of one of these rooms.
